This tester measures compression strength of liners, corrugated mediums, corrugated board and small-sized containers. It determines resistance against compression in various forms. It is designed for simplified measurement of compression strength, and a load cell is employed for load detection, achieving accuracy and reproducibility.
Circlar sample collector

  • [TAPPI]
  • [ISO]
This device is designed to quickly collect circular samples such as those described below. It provides precise cutting, preventing sampled sheets from being crushed or from having uneven cut edges. A double-edged razor is installed, which can be replaced easily.
Column compressor (end crush tester)
Physical testing / Crush
  • No.2097
  • [JIS]Z-0401-1985
  • [TAPPI]
  • [ISO]3035
This tester measures the vertical compression strength of a corrugated board sheet, and is also referred to as an end crush tester. A corrugated board sheet is erected straight and load is applied on it. As the load increases, the maximum load is measured that is reached before the side surfaces of the corrugated board sheet is buckled. The strength perpendicular to the corrugated section is a characteristic value correlated to the pressure-withstanding capacity of the corrugated board case and also has a correlation with the ring crush characteristic of the raw paper. Measurement is performed on a specimen collected with a cutter for end crush tests (No. 2134) that is set into a crush tester along with this attachment.
Ply bond tester (pin adhesion tester)
Physical testing / Crush
  • No.2098
  • [JIS]Z-0402-1995
  • [TAPPI]T-821
  • [ISO]
In double-faced corrugated board, two liners are securely bonded to the corrugated medium, providing the strength of a structure. This adhesive strength is tested as follows. Two pin apparatuses are inserted between threads of the corrugated medium and the liner. One of the pin apparatuses is inserted from one side, and the other, from the opposite side, forming a U shape, on both sides of the specimen. This specimen is set onto the crush tester's compression plate to read the value of the adhesive strength. This is referred to as the double-faced pin adhesion test method, and you can observe that the pin apparatus on the side with weaker adhesion strength comes off first. In the single-faced pin adhesion test method, every other pin on a pin apparatus is inserted between a flute and the liner to measure adhesion strength.
KRK flute tester (virtical roll type)
Physical testing / Flute

When using corrugated board for packaging material, structural quality study includes checking of characteristics such as flat crush strength, end crush strength, ply bond strength and corrugated medium strength. This tester is developed as a pre-processing device for collecting samples for testing those characteristics. It can form specimens as wide as 100mm.
It works in the following mechanism. On a corrugating machine, pre-heated corrugating medium is threaded through corrugating rolls (gear-shaped) heated to 177±5?C under a certain pressure, during which process corrugation is performed. The specimen formed is fixed in a rack using a ten-pin cantilever apparatus and then attached to the rack with double-faced adhesive tape to form one-sided corrugated board. A crush tester is used to compress the specimen and then the maximum load is measured.

This tester is developed as a pre-processing device for collecting samples for CMT testing. It works in the following mechanism. On a corrugating machine, pre-heated corrugating medium is threaded through corrugating rolls(gear-shaped) heated to 177±5℃ under a certain pressure, during which process corrugation is performed. The specimen formed is fixed in a rack using a ten-pin cantilever apparatus and then attached to the rack with adhesive tape to from one-sided corrugated board.
Puncture tester
Physical testing / Puncture/Adhesion
  • No.2105
  • [JIS]P-8134-1998
  • [TAPPI]T-803
  • [ISO]3036
There is a potential of breakage of a corrugated cardboard box when it hits another package during transportation. A JIS standard specifies the puncture strength considering such breakage. Puncture strength depends upon thickness and adhesion strength of corrugated board, as well as breaking strength and tearing strength of raw paper. So puncture strength is a characteristic suitable for evaluating the quality of corrugated board. Test principle: a right angle pyramid point affixed to the end of the pendulum moves with the pendulum; energy loss when the pyramid point breaks the specimen is read on the scale.
Ply adhesion tester
Physical testing / Puncture/Adhesion
  • No.2107
  • [JIS]
  • [TAPPI]
  • [ISO]
The ply adhesion of paperboard is an important factor in process steps including printing, cutting and box making. This property has been evaluated by various test methods. This tester measures the ply adhesion of combination board. It is provided with a pair of chucks sliding in the horizontal direction. One end of specimen is connected to a pendulum that gives peeling load, and the chuck on the other side is linked with a driving device moving at a constant speed. First, peel the plies of specimen for a length of 20mm, and bend the peeled portions outward to form a T shape. Fix both ends of the peeled portions with the chucks, and gradually move the chuck by the motor. At positions about 20mm, 40mm and 60mm from the peeling start point, read the load on the scale.

Paperboard abration tester
Physical testing / Abration
  • No.2108
  • [JIS]P-8136-1994
  • [TAPPI]
  • [ISO]
Corrugated cardboard boxes and paperboards are subject to significant vibrations and friction during feed to a box making machine or cargo transport. Surface abrasion resistance is important for avoiding peeling under such actions. This tester measures the resistance of paperboard to surface abrasion. Specimens are fixed to two different friction parts in the arc form. A couple of specimens of the same direction (MD or CD) rub each other on the test surface. The number of reciprocating motions is read on the counter, till fibers remove from the surface or abrasion occurs.
Vapor permeability tester
Physical testing / Vapor permeability
  • No.2120
  • [JIS]
  • [TAPPI]
  • [ISO]
Packaging paper for a material to be kept dry must have a high resistance to vapor permeance. Vapor permeability is expressed by the mass of vapor that passes through a unit area of specimen at a certain temperature and humidity. This tester measures the quantity of water transmission. Test procedure: put silica gel in an aluminum cup, and close the cup with a specimen; leave them at 40℃, 90% RH for a certain span of time, to measure the mass (in grams) of vapor transmission. Vapor permeability is obtained by converting the measured result to a value per square meter of the specimen.
